John W. Vaughan

Second Lieutenant John W. Vaughan, was a member of the United States Army, HHC, US ARMY SUPPORT COMMAND QUI NHON, 1st  LOG CMD. He was a passport and auditing officer. 

2Lt. John W. Vaughan, boarded a C-130 airplane on the night of June 17, 1967, for a flight from An Khe to Pleiku, South Vietnam.  Near the end of the runway during take-off, the pilot attempted to abort the departure due to a mechanical failure.  The plane crashed and burned in a gulley at the end of the runway.  2Lt. John W. Vaughan was in route from one duty station to another.

Raised in Williston, Ohio, 2Lt. Vaughan, graduated from Genoa High School and Bowling Green State University.  John Vaughan married a Clay High School graduate, Marcia Danyi. She lived in Oregon, so the couple made their home on Pickle Road. John enlisted in the Army and was assigned to the tank corps.  Because he was a college graduate  John Vaughan was selected for Officer Candidate School from which he graduated and was commissioned as an officer.  He died 6-17-1967.
